My name is Laina Lamb and I live just outside Cleveland, Ohio. I am married to a very patient husband to puts up with my creative obsessions. We have three boys Maxwell Presley 15, Cooper Marley 8 and Emmitt Cash 6.

I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a design degree and worked in the architectural field designing retail stores, malls and graphics. After my youngest boys were born I stayed home for a few years to enjoy being a mom. I started scrapbooking during this career break and found that I had found my true calling. I now work full time as a freelance graphic designer and product development specialist for several craft manufacturers. I have a strong interest in Digital Die Cutting machines and sell my own designs at Two Peas in a Bucket. My favorite projects to create are pages about my children! I have been very fortunate to have work published in several issues of Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbooks Etc, Scrapbook Trends.

My name is Jennifer Hansen and I live in Central Iowa. I have been married for 15 years and we have a son Parker 9 and daughter Emma 7. We round out the family with a dog, cat, turtle and 5 chickens. I spend a lot of my time running the children to various activities and also like to read, play the piano and am embarrased to say I watch way too much reality TV.

I started scrapbooking after my daughter was born and back then all of my supplies fit in a small tote. 7 years later, I have a scrap room that is overflowing and a serious addiction. My biggest crafting struggle is organization. My favorite projects to create are cards and home decor times. I have had projects featured in a variety of magazines including Creating Keepsakes, Paper Crafts, Scrapbook Trends, Cards and Paper Creations among others.

In a former life I was a corporate attorney living in San Francisco. After my daughter was born, my husband and I decided to move our little family to Arizona. We are still adjusting to the extreme heat, but overall we love the family atmosphere here. In 2007 our little guy was born. They are now 5 and 3 and 1/2. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 5 years. I started scrapbooking about the same time our daughter was born. What started as a way to create a baby album for my daughter turned into much more.
Although I have been "journaling" and taking tons of pictures my whole life, it wasn't until I saw scrapbooking as whole that everything clicked for me and the obsession began! I love to scrapbook my kids because (and I know I am biased here) they are over the top photogenic and because I love remembering the little stories, anecdotes and trials and tribulations we go through as a family. I also scrap my husband and our relationship. And I can honestly say I do like to scrap myself. I find it very therapeutic! Besides recording memories and playing with fun product, I love to learn new techniques and to learn about photography. My favorite way to add texture and dimension to my projects is by sewing (either hand or machine) because I love the homemade, unique touch it adds. Besides making layouts, I love cardmaking and making gifts for family and friends too.
Thanks Cynthia for giving me the opportunity to work with Scribble Scrabble's Haley's and Simply Stylish collections! I had such fun creating with their pretty designs and versatile colors. I especially loved all the polka dots included on the flip sides of the paper and could easily use these papers on every project!

Guest Designer Search

Scribble Scrabble is looking for a few good Guest Designers!

Starting in August 2010, we'd like to feature the projects of some scrapbook/paper craft artists who created with Scribble Scrabble products. Each month we will feature one or two Guest Designer's work on our blog and website.

Each Guest Designer will recieve a generous package of Scribble Scrabble products (especially the newest stuff) and will be asked to make at least two awesome projects with it. Then, the designer will email some great images of her projects to us. These images, including the name, photo, and bio of the designer will be published in our blog and in our website gallery. :)

Since we don't make embellishments, we understand that the featured projects won't show Scribble Scrabble products exclusively, and that's okay! We just ask that Guest Designers do their best to limit the paper on the projects to ours.

So....if you'd like to be considered (or have any questions) for a Guest Designer spot, please email me at, cynthia@scribblescrabble.net and send along a couple images of your best/favorite projects. Also, let me know what months would and wouldn't work for you to be featured. The deadline for applications is JULY 23, 2010. I'll let the designers I choose know by August 1 (or sooner).

'Simply Stylish' Collection

High-heels, purses, and cocktail dresses... yah, this one's for the girls! I was tempted to call it "Favorite Things," but thought that might come off a little too materialistic. :) Anyway, I think Simply Stylish is a fun group of papers to play with. I especially like the color pallet. I can't wait to see what people do with it!

Haley's Paper Collection

Cute, playful, and summery fresh-- aptly named for my niece, Haley! This collection has 6 double-sided patterned papers. My favorite is "Strawberry Patch & Berry Parfait!"

An Abundance Of Inspiration!

I've been a little strapped for time lately, but just HAD to do a few projects with our new collections! When time is limited and my creativity in a lull, I tend to turn to the wonderful creations of others for inspiration. In fact, I believe one of the best ways to learn how to scrapbook is to model your own layouts after ones you've seen and loved. And thanks to all the excellent magazines, idea books, and online galleries, inspiration is never far away!

So that's what I did---I looked through my current magazines and found some great projects that I used as models for my own.

I loved the design of Elizabeth Kartchner's layout in Creating Keepsakes Sept. 09 issue (pg. 75). I modeled this layout after hers. I used our new Party Time paper and diecuts.

I wanted to welcome a neighbor home from her summer trip to Alaska. I saw the card by Maren Benedict in Paper Crafts Sept./Oct. 2009 (pg.74), and I instantly wanted to pattern one after it. So cute! I used papers from our Lullaby Of Birdland collection.

Scrapbook USA Expo

Last weekend Scribble Scrabble exhibited at the Scrapbook USA Expo (in Sandy, UT) for the first time, and we had a great experience! It was so much fun meeting and visiting with hundreds of scrapbook enthusiasts. I taught four "VIP" classes, did a couple of demos (the cake boxes), and even did 3 different TV interviews...I was busy and on my feet almost the whole time! So, of course, I came home tired, but very happy to have been part of that event!

Anyway, thought I'd share some pics of our booth and some of the fun projects we had on display.

BTW, that's my 17 year old son in the booth picture---he was a trooper and helped from 6am to midnight on Friday. What a guy!

Lovin' It!

I’d like to share a few more projects using Carmen’s Collection. It’s been so fun for me to see what our DT members have recently created with the new products—and I’ve continued to play around myself.

The fist layout is one I created. When I was looking through some “to be scrapped” photos, I came across this wonderful portrait of my maternal grandmother with her two oldest daughters (the younger one being my mom). I just love the photo--especially the colorization.

The next project was created by Lisa Dale. She made this cute pencil holder to use in her classroom.

And the final layout is by Jane Davies. What a wonderful picture! And I love the scalloped outside edge!

Well, it’s really excellent that many of our customers (retailers) are asking us when they can order our new products…but, I said, “I need to finish my sneak peeks first!” So, speeding things along, here’s my final peek at our third new set of paper and diecuts: Carmen’s Collection.
Unlike the other two collections, Carmen’s does not have a namesake. It’s just a name I’ve always loved and evokes thoughts of drama, love, good humor, and passion, (like the opera, minus the tragedy).

Here's Ruth!

This is a peek at the second of our three new 2009 product releases: Ruth's Collection.

Feminine, flirty, and a bit old-fashioned--these designs inspired me to name the collection after my grandma Ruth. Oh yes, and lavender! Lavender vases, lavender walls, lavender, lavender, everywhere--a color I will always associate with Grandma. :)

Ruth's patterns also have a fabric look.

I hope you enjoy some of my creations with this collection, and get inspired to make some of your own!

Sneak-A-Peek at some "Pretty Pieces"

I’ve been busy, busy, busy making projects with the three new collections we’re introducing at the Winter ’09 CHA show in a couple of weeks!
We’re not quite ready to show off EVERYTHING from our new lines, but I did want to share this project to give you a sense of the fun colors and designs of our new products.
I filled this cute window box full of diecut flowers from each of the 3 collections. Each collection has a 12X12 “Pretty Pieces” diecut sheet which includes bunches of sweet flowers and a few other decorative accents. The title on the front of the box is from another set of our diecuts (“Scribbled Sentiments”). I taped the flowers to some thin floral wire and poked them down into some foam and glued on a few buttons here and there to add dimension.
I love how all the colors and patterns create such a cheerful display!
Some of our new patterned paper also shows through behind the windows of the box. I have to say the paper in these collections is my favorite so far…I’ll be showing it off soon, so check back often!

Let It Snow!

When January rolls around and it is time to take down the Christmas decorations, our house always seems to look so bare. Then, the January blahs set in, the days are so short and the weather is cold and dreary. To counteract that feeling this year, I decided to keep some of my more “wintery” decorations on display so I made this “Let it Snow” frame using some of the wonderful Suzie Snowflake collection. I love the contrast in colors with this collection, the blues, greens and reds make for some very fun Christmas/Winter pages and home décor projects.

Christmas Creativity

Christmas time is here again. Time to bring out the decorations, and make some new ones too!

I pulled out my Suzy Snowflake collection of paper, diecuts, and chipboard stickers, and went to work on covering a plain wooden "cd holder" house into a Chritsmas card holder. I used Modge Podge to adhere the paper to the wood, and layered on an extra coat for additional protection and shine. I added the chipboard stickers last. I think it's a fun little holiday house, and is a great place to put cards as we receive them.

Melissa Ackerman had some fun with the Suzy Snowflake papers too! She used Sparkle Modge Podge to adhere paper pieces to a pointe shoe---SOOOO cute! Then she covered the whole thing with a couple of layers of clear acrylic sealer.

Thankful

This is the time of year to overlook the often unfortunate weather and concentrate instead on our blessings. There are so many things to be thankful for. As a scrapbooker/crafter, no doubt that family and friends are very high on the list of things we are thankful for. But what about the little things that enable us to enjoy this hobby? Let us remember to be thankful for our eyesight, the dexterity in our hands, the ability to form thoughts and to translate those thoughts into journaling. Let us be thankful for the time and opportunities we have to create. Let us be thankful for self adhesive products, because we all know how much easier they make our crafting time. Let us be thankful for one another, and to be inspired by those around us. The cross stitching element of this layout was inspired by another member of the Scribble Scrabble design team who recently won the title of Scrapbooker of the Year in the UK, Stephanie Garbett. We are so proud of you Stephanie!

Baby Bath Gift

Tis the start of the gift giving season. So many new babies born around this time of year, I know my son was. My Scribble Scrabble project today includes 4 photos that illustrate how to make a baby gift from a drawer organizer I purchased for $4.99 from the container store. I'm a military wife, and frequently need to give a fast and inexpensive baby gift to the other women in the company. So I originally took my husband's drawer organizer for his ties, (later I just bought them new). I paint and cover the box with paper, and load the altered box up with bath samples for a new baby. I change the paper for boy/blue and girl/pink. The Scribble Scrabble Baby Circus line is perfect for this because it includes both blue and pink papers, or other neutral papers if you don't know the gender (like green). I usually do the box after I get the call about a baby being born in the company, so I usually know. I added some clear wrap, ribbon, and a Scribble Scrabble die cut lab as a tag. Fast, simple, and inexpensive. And you can use the left over paper for scrapbooking or cards, what's not to love about that?

Altered Baby Bath Gift (from Drawer organizer)
Instructions:1. Sand paper glossy finish off box.2. Paint with 1-2 coats of white paint.3. Add Scribble Scrabble paper with Memory Mount glue.4. Add Scribble Scrabble Die cut Swirl to the back with adhesive.5. Add sample bath stuff and towel.6. Wrap with clear bag and tie with tag and ribbon.

Supplies: Drawer organizer from the container store; Making Memories white paint; Memory Mount glue; Scribble Scrabble patterned paper, die cut swirl and tag; Cosmo Cricket jack ribbon; Hole punch from Staples.

Fall Is Here!

It's hard to believe, but, it's true, Fall is officially here! In Georgia we have to wait a while for the nice cool tempertures that accompany the change of the season, but, I don't mind. I woke up the other morning to a crisp 58 degrees and I was thrilled LOL! We've been taking advantage of the beautiful weather by playing outside more. I snapped a lot of photos the other day and one of my favorites was this one of Jill, striking a pose. I knew right away that the gorgeous, rich colors of the Sweet n' Sour Collection would be perfect for it. They remind me of fall with the deep purples, browns and greens! One of my favorite things about the new collections is the distressed notebook paper each line has. I don't even bother with cardstock, these sheets are nice and thick! I doubled up on them for this layout and distressed the edges a bit further by tearing them. I also love the flocked Chippers - they are SO cool! They add the perfect amount of dimension! I layered some of the die cut sheets and the Chippers for lots of texture and dimension. I love the color combo of this layout, I think the Sweet n' Sour Collection is my new favorite! Webkinz Mania!

My daughter's 4th grade teacher does a time capsule every year. Her current 4th graders write an essay with their plans for the future and include photos and items that are special to them. They also get to witness returning 12th graders revisiting the same project they did when they were 4th graders. At the time, the Webkinz craze was in full force. My daughter spent months mooning over them. I admit I did not understand it. I remembered the Ty Beanie Baby craze and was worried it would come and go just as quickly and at a greater expense. I thought $14.95 was a bit much to spend on a small stuffed animal when all my daughter really wanted to do was to be able to access the on-line games.

And then her birthday rolled around. She received one for her birthday from a friend. I thought that was wonderful. Thought we were done.

Imagine my surprise when *I* was the one to buy the second one! I was shopping for a gift for another of her friends and saw a wide assortment. I had no idea that they were hard to find at the time and I had just walked into a store with a fresh shipment. Still, I bought her the pink poodle.

After that, the number of Webkinz in our home seemed to multiply exponentially! There were gifts from each of the grandparents... repeatedly. There were gifts from others and my daughter even saved money to buy some on her own. Then, the Webkinz folks started to put out accessories. Yes, accessories for stuffed animals. My daughter is a girlie girl and she cannot resist accessories. Trouble with a capital T!

At last count, there are over 20 Webkinz living in a hat box atop a trunk in my daughter's room, along with scatttered accessories. But, just as I predicted, at least for my child, the craze is dying down. She rarely signs on to the Webkinz site any more, has not asked for a new pet or accessory in months, and the actual stuffed animals only get moved when she needs something in her trunk.

I do think she made a good choice for the time capsule... and it forced me to take a photo of something I might not have ordinarily thought to capture. The papers, chipboard flower and rickrack border are all from Scribble Scrabble's new Sweet N Sour collection.

Here's a fun little card I put together this afternoon. I used products from our new Indigo Collection--including our new "Chippers" (chipboard stickers), and our Paper Ribbons.

Card making is one of my favorite paper crafts because I can (usually) create one in a jiffy, utilize my stash of paper scraps, and best of all, I've got something special to give away when I'm done!

Hands On!

Years ago I worked a couple summers as a docent in an antique museum. I spent much of my time watching over the exhibits and asking people not to touch. Despite all the “Do Not Touch” signs and my verbal reminders, people of all ages would frequently reach forward to get a quick feel of the different items. I found it fascinating to observe the seemingly incontrollable urge of some to get their hands on things. It was as though seeing just wasn’t enough. Somehow touching made the experience complete.
Knowing how people like to touch, I’m not surprised to see attendees, when they come into the Scribble Scrabble booth at tradeshows, walk right up to our displays and immediately feel the products. It’s part of their observation process. It’s interesting to see that people will also run their fingers, feeling texture and dimension, across sample layouts and projects.
I totally understand the need to touch things. I’m a tactile person too. I try to keep my hands off museum pieces, but where touching is allowed, I’ll do it! Touch is one of my five senses, after all, and I like to use it.

One of my favorite things about scrapbooking and paper crafting is using my hands to create tangible items. It’s a very “hands on” activity. The results are “hands on” too. I really enjoy being able to hold, share, and display my creations.
Now and then a friend or associate will ask me if I think digital scrapbooking will bring an end to paper scrapbooking. I don’t think so. Despite all its appeals and advantages, digital scrapbooking can never completely fill that “hands on” need that so many of us have when we create.
Admittedly, I spend most of my creative design time on the computer. I couldn’t do what I do without it. My computer is one of my BFFs. But as happy as I am to do digital work and see a design come together, it is SO much more exciting and satisfying when my “virtual” paper becomes real and I hold it in my hands. Then the fun begins. Then I can really play with it!
So, here’s to all of us that love to handle, touch, manipulate, cut, feel, tear, fiddle, and create with real paper in the physical world!
